Giovanni Ramírez García se graduó como Ingeniero Electrónico en la Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. Después se graduó como Máster en Física de la Materia Condensada y Nanotecnología en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Posteriormente obtuvo el Doctorado en Física de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid por su trabajo en el Grupo de Física Teórica de la Materia Condensada e Información Cuántica del Instituto de Física Teórica, un centro conjunto de esa universidad y del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas de España.

Entre sus intereses de investigación se encuentran el desarrollo de métodos teóricos para el estudio de sistemas cuánticos de muchos cuerpos, que son de interés para las áreas de Simulaciones Cuánticas e Información Cuántica. Algunos de esos sistemas son de interés para la Física de Materia Condensada e incluyen: cadenas de espín, escaleras de espín, etc
